Training Notes
Last night’s training was an informal session with a focus on sparring techniques. Also did turn-for-turn counters and high kick blocking technique.
Sempai’s advice was to spend time practicing some basic combos:
1) three punches + kick
2) mae geri + 3 punches
3) mae geri + 3 punches + sweep
Reflections from training:
1) practice left and right sided techniques (focus on weaker side to develop). Both sides should be equally strong.
2) move into board swinging attacks (closer to opponent) to deflect power from kicks and punches. This feels awkward makes sense the most force in a punch or kick is delivered at the extremity of the limb.
3) continue to focus on breathing through punches, kicks (kumite, kihon and kata). It will become 2nd nature eventually but need to be conscious of breath for the moment.
Unfortunately a right calf injury sustained on Tuesday night is still persisting, slightly aggravated from sparring work. Will rest over the weekend and appraise on Tuesday morning. Might need to ask Sensai for training modifications for a week or two.

Training notes
This evening's class was less formal. Included light sparring, bag work, skipping. Sempai's 'homework' was to reflect on foot work and strike combos with a view to applying techniques in Thursday's sparring session.
Covered taikyoku sono ichi, taokyoku sono ni, and taikyoku sono san. Need to work on stance (particularly alternate in san). Also, breath through punches.
Class finished with some dynamic exercises - handstands, squat stands and bridge. These might be fun (and practical) when playing with the kids.

Training notes
Class this evening started with high intensity cardio. Still recovering from a lingering cold and struggled maintain form through kihon. Bare handed bag seasion was a good test - obvious that my hands still need a lot of conditioning. Back kick drills showed some improvement over Tuesdays class but more work to do.
Class end with kata. Seems i have the basics of kata 1 (Taikyoku Sono Ichi) coming together and got an intro to # 3 ( Taikyoku Sono San). Will need some more practice over the weekend, focus on transition turns in particular making a straight movement with the left leg through 290 deg turns. Sensai also led several more advanced kata - struggled to keep up but going to focus on the basics for now: flexibility, cardio and form.

training notes
19th July 2016
Class began with light sparring. Set a fast temp for the rest of the evening. Coming down with a cold and it made training harder than previous classes.
Kihon included knuckle push ups on blocks. Clearly something I need to develop!
Bag work session felt good and strike strength beginning to build. New sparring mitts worked well.
Finished up with kata then focus pad back kicks. Need to practice form. Sensai's advice:
Practice twice as much on the less favoured side.
Don't turn too far
Look over shoulder and focus sight on where the kick will land.
Kick no more than one arm length back from target.
Try to keep body upright to maintain balance, force and assertive stance. Easy to be pushed off balance leaning away from opponent.
Reflection
Back kicking technique needs practice but let that develop during class. Focus on general cardio, flexibility and fitness first.
Need to establish a pattern of regular cardio / strength training
Consider the 100 push ups program + rope + stretching
Return to. Cycling during midday kid sleeps on the weekend
